Licensing Q&A

We have had a few questions on licensing recently, from people asking about changes, etc. Therefore, I decided to answer some common questions in the short form.

Q. Is it still free?
A. The Eloquera DB is free, both for non-commercial and commercial use. That has not changed and is not going to change.

Q. What are the conditions of use for the database?
A. You need to register and provide correct details about yourself/your company in order to be legally using the Eloquera DB 3.0.

Q. What about the requirements for the companies with the annual revenue 1M and above?
A. This is what we call a "1M rule". The companies with the annual revenue 1M and above have 2 options. The first is to get the support license per server in order to use the Eloquera DB legally in the production environment. The second is to contact us and we can consider your case separately, and you even may get a free use license.

Q. Your support prices are too high.
A. Technically, this is not a question, it is a statement. And the prices reflect the amount the companies pay their developers for 2 weeks of work. We have reports that using the Eloquera DB, companies could implement their complex solutions in weeks not in months. So, the companies much get more within shorter time.

Q. It is still too expensive.
A. Again, this is a statement, not a question. For those companies with $1,000,000 annually who cannot afford getting paid support, there is a forum that we are watching closely and providing the answers pretty quickly.

Q. Eh, who is going to pay for support if there is a free forum?
A. Well, the Eloquera DB is a free product and is going to be free. We help companies grow, and expect them to support the Eloquera DB by getting the subscriptions or requesting consulting services from Eloquera. Also, the forum is supported in our free time, whereas the supported customers get the priority service.

Q. I am developing software for the customers with 1M revenue or above. Should I get a subscription for the Eloquera DB?
A. No, as a developer or a company with the revenue less than 1M USD you can use the software by just registering on our website.

Q. Still, my customers have the annual revenue above 1M. Should I get a subscription?
A. The "1M rule" applies to your customers, so they (or you on the customer's behalf) have to either get a subscription or contact us for special conditions.

Q.Well, I am writing an application that uses the Eloquera DB in the desktop mode. Should I get a subscription for every instance of the application?
A. For the desktop applications, you get a single server subscription for the whole project (an unlimited number of copies of the same application) if the "1M rule" applies to you. Or contact us for special conditions.

Q. I have written an application and now I am selling it via the 3rd party websites or companies. I don't know my customers. What measures should I take to ensure that I do the things in the right way regarding the licensing?
A. You need to mention the licensing rules of the Eloquera DB in your license. If you do not know your customers, you cannot distribute the server part of the Eloquera DB with your application (although you may distribute the client DLLs along with your application without getting any permissions).

Q. I need to include the whole installation of the Eloquera DB with my application for distribution. What should I do?
A. Drop us an email, we will give you a written permission. In this case you should know your customers, provide us with some basic information. And the "1M rule" applies to your customers, of course.

Q. Your database is too expensive. Can I get a discount?
A. The Eloquera DB is free. If it is too much, we can give you further 90% discount for it. If it is still too expensive, apply this discount as many times as you need.
